Brent Pope Visits Amgen for Mental Health Talk in Partnership with ABLE Employee Resource Group

Elephant in the Room was delighted to see Brent Pope visit Amgen for a mental health talk hosted in partnership with the ABLE Employee Resource Group.

The session created space for an honest and thought-provoking conversation around mental health, wellbeing, inclusion and the importance of showing up for one another in the workplace.

Following the event, Patrick Scanlan, Process Development Manager and ABLE Lead at Amgen, shared a thoughtful reflection on LinkedIn. He described the session as powerful, honest and full of practical reminders about the importance of speaking up, checking in, and creating space for real conversations.

One message that clearly resonated was the reminder that while organisations are proud to serve patients every day, it is also important to remember the people within the organisation — every colleague, every time.

At Elephant in the Room, this is exactly why these conversations matter.

Mental health support does not always begin with something complicated. Sometimes it starts with a simple question. How are you doing? Do you want to talk? Is there anything I can do?

Small moments of connection can help reduce stigma, build understanding and remind people that they do not have to carry things alone.

We would like to thank Patrick Scanlan, the ABLE Employee Resource Group, Brent Pope, and everyone at Amgen who helped bring this important event to life.

By continuing to open up conversations around mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, organisations like Amgen are helping to create cultures where people feel seen, heard and supported.
